Yield: 12 donuts

  • 2 Cups of flour
  • 1 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 large egg lightly beaten
  • 1 1/4 cups of whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract

For the filling:

  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) of unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  • Butter the donut pan well.
  • In a large bowl, sift the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla.
  • Mix the wet mixture with the dry ingredients until just blended.
  • Pour the mixture into the pan, filling each a little more than three quarters. Cook for 17 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. Leave to cool for 5 minutes, then beat the donuts on a baking sheet.

  • For the garnish, melt the 8 tablespoons of butter in an 8-inch pan.
  • Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  • Dip each donut first in the butter and then in the cinnamon sugar, on one side or both sides.
